Update

Have you seen the new Library Information and Childrens Centre. It is something special, afacility available to all dalton residents easily accessible by car or bus, official opening February27.

What a pity the other great facility the Dram Centre, is not properly managed. It is a scandal that its great gymn, its large rooms stand empty most of the time.Meanwhile we have kids who should be benefitting wandering round the streets and outside the Centre.

Negotiations are ongoing to get a doctor's surgury and health Centre In Harpe Inge It would be brilliant to get the Health Centre oppositeThe Library. Well it took years to get the Library but we got it I am equally certain in fact I.am assured that this next piece in the jigsaw will be there before long. The DRAM Centre is another matter.it is time Kirklees stepped in, reconstituted the management and gave the place back to the community.I have been saying this to officers and cabinet members for years, so far to no avail.I wonder if the new Liberal cabinet member responsible might be persuaded to take action .

What do you think? Let me know! Let Christine Stanfield know christine.stanfield@kirklees.gov.uk

So long for now

On Saturday I was on Ridgeway, knocking on doors and chatting to
residents. It was chilly on the doorstep. The wind had also clearly been blowing hard and I’ll be sorting out the litter that’s gathered in some of the communal areas as a priority.
The hot topic was definitely
housing. A number of residents are in dire need of new bathrooms. All in
all, there’s a lot to be getting on with next week.
As I walked around with local Labour activists I was acutely aware of
the ambitions we have for this area. There’s lots of spare space in the Ridgeway area and I want to make sure we use it right. The first piece of the jigsaw is already in place in the form of the new Library and Information Centre (although getting the opening times listed outside would be a bonus). I want to make sure the second stage to
redevelop the area gets underway as soon as possible.
That means looking
at what local residents want and the services they need in the area – more good quality housing, a health centre, park, community centre, local shop? I’ll be setting up meetings with council officers to talk about the options as soon as possible.
